AANA 2012: Shaking It up in San Francisco

Become entranced by the natural beauty and breathtaking scenery of San Francisco, the colorful location for AANA’s 2012 Annual Meeting. Join us at the Moscone West Convention Center, Aug. 4-8, 2012, for a week of learning, reconnecting with friends and colleagues, and maybe indulging in some fun-filled exercise.

San Francisco offers many opportunities to get in a warm-up cardio workout before participating in AANA’s Sixth Annual Wake-Up for Wellness Fun Walk/Run on Monday, Aug. 6. Taking any of the city’s walking tours will introduce you to the numerous places of interest and get your heart rate up as you stroll up and down the rolling hills.

You can walk down Lombard, “the crookedest street in the world,” and if you are feeling energetic, you can walk back up. If you are looking for a real challenge, though, Filbert Street between Leavenworth and Hyde, or 22nd Street between Church and Vicksburg promise a steep 31.5 percent grade.

Revisit the hippie movement of the 1960s while exploring the Haight-Ashbury district, or embrace the culture and history of Chinatown, the largest Chinatown outside of Asia. The Presidio offers spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay, and hiking trails and bicycle routes.

If you prefer to exercise your spirit, take in a concert at the San Francisco Symphony or quiet your mind while walking the mystical labyrinths of Grace Cathedral. The Legion of Honor Museum displays impressive works of art while overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge. The wineries of Napa and Sonoma Valleys offer world-class wine tasting amongst the breathtaking vistas of the vineyards.

Don’t forget Fisherman’s Wharf, Alcatraz, and the cable cars. There are so many ways to exercise your heart before leaving it in San Francisco!
